Beekmantown Central School District voters approved an $18M capital project January 17, 2017. That capital project features four priority areas that are project cornerstones: (1) enhancements to various educational program spaces; (2) traffic safety improvements; (3) athletic field upgrades; and (4) infrastructure updates. Overall, this voter-approved capital project work will enhance 21st Century learning and instruction to help keep education at the forefront among the students served at Beekmantown Central School District, according to Superintendent of Schools Daniel W. Mannix.
The March 26, 2019 5:30 p.m. groundbreaking ceremony will likely be thirty minutes long, and will take place outside the side entrance to Beekmantown Middle School on Haynes Road in Plattsburgh. It’s expected there will be representatives of several student clubs and organizations, parent-teacher organizations, employee associations, community organizations, the architectural and engineering firm Tetra Tech, the construction management firm UW Marx, one or more of the prime contractors for year’s this capital project work and the school district’s Board of Education. Members of the public are welcome to attend. It’s anticipated that light refreshments will be available at the end of the groundbreaking ceremony, as part of the celebration.
Summer 2018 capital project work focused on site improvements to the main campus, such as a re-constructed school bus loop, parking areas and drainage systems. Additional sidewalks were constructed as part of pedestrian and traffic safety enhancements.
Spring and summer 2019 capital project work will include construction of a new large group instruction classroom for middle school and high school use, elementary school main entry enhancements including passive security features, a dedicated elementary school cafeteria and serving line for students apart from the elementary school gymnasium. Other summer 2019 work includes electrical, mechanical and plumbing system upgrades in the buildings, plus improvements to the athletic and physical education facilities. Examples: A new synthetic turf field and updated physical fitness facilities for students and community members, such as tennis/pickleball courts and an outdoor track for running and walking. Cumberland Head Elementary School will also be receiving various facilities upgrades.
